The Tin Forest and The Promise Comparison Guided Reading Pack

This teaching sequence focuses on comparing the imagery and themes within the two texts. There are similarities in theme, imagery and both have a transformation plot (negative environment to positive environment). It is intended that there are sufficient activities in this teaching sequence to engage your children in meaningful learning for one week of guided reading lessons. Prior to the session, it would be helpful if children have read both texts. This could be through using the separate teaching sequences for each text, or just reading both the texts for enjoyment before completing this teaching sequence.

This teaching sequence includes:

• A guided reading lesson plan in an editable word document format.

• A five key points template sheet.

• Flashcards.

• Prompt cards for discussion.

• A photocopiable comparison grid.

• A photocopiable set of extended comparison comprehension questions for

  independent or teacher/ TA supported work.

• A written activity for independent work about transformation.
