This resource includes 55 compound conundrums to help children build their vocabulary, spelling skills and knowledge of compound words. Each conundrum presents three words that are linked by a common but missing root word.

The conundrums are organised to indicate the level of challenge using the colours green, amber and red. Green conundrums are linked by a missing word at the beginning of the compound words, amber conundrums are linked by a missing word at the end of the compound words, and red conundrums are linked by missing words that could be placed at the beginning or end of the compound words.

Answers are provided for each conundrum
