In this set based on Dougal’s Deep-Sea Diary by Simon Bartram you’ll find ideas to support spoken language, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and spelling. In this set of Starting Points, you will find planning to support the following grammar objectives:

  • Formation of nouns with -er

  • Use of -ly to turn adjectives into adverbs

  • Expanded noun phrases

  • Subordination and co-ordination

  • How the grammatical patterns in a sentence indicate its function

  • Consistent use of present and past tense

  • Use of capital letters, full stops and question marks to demarcate sentences

  • Apostrophes to mark where letters are missing in spelling and to mark singular possession in nouns
