This teaching sequence focuses on identifying and explaining how meaning is enhanced through the choice of words and phrases (content domain 2g). It is intended that there are sufficient activities in this teaching sequence to engage your children in meaningful learning for one week of guided reading lessons.
This teaching sequence includes:
A guided reading lesson plan in an editable word document format
A copy of Silver by Walter de la Mare
Poetic Features cards for children to match features and their definitions
A Poetry Magnifying Glass resource for analysing features of the poem
A Silver writing prompt
A photocopiable set of comprehension questions for independent or teacher/ TA supported work
An independent writing activity allowing children to write their own poems using the features found in Silver.
We’ve pitched this planning at children in Year 5 and Year 6.
